Details

Your first hour belongs to you. Most mornings start as a reaction: the phone alarm, the screen, the day already asking for you before your feet touch the floor. This clock starts the morning with light instead, and the morning becomes a practice.

Why it matters. For the ritual: the first hour kept the same way every morning. For the journey: from reaction to practice, one level at a time. For the experience: waking into light, the way mornings began before there was a screen beside the bed. For the distance from the digital world: one object on the nightstand that asks nothing of you, so the screens stay out of the bedroom as a natural result. The object is the doorway; the practice is the point.

The practice grows in three levels. Level 1, training: for the first week you let the light wake you before the sound, at the same time each day. Level 2, the first hour: you wake, set an intention, move, and begin, with a few minutes of stillness by the light before the phone. Level 3, kept and shared: the practice stays without pushing, and the second alarm is there for the person beside you.

The evening side. At night the same clock is a dimmable warm light with a 30, 60 or 90 minute timer, so the light and the sound fade out together and the phone stays out of reach. Let the room go dark before you do.

Good to know. The room brightens slowly for 15 minutes before your alarm, and a soft sound follows only if you are still asleep. Set it once with the buttons on the clock: no app, no Wi-Fi, no subscription. It stays plugged in on a USB power cable and has no internal battery. The finish is wood-grain on a plastic body, and the small bedside speaker is for a quiet room, not for music. Delivery estimate shown at checkout. 30 days, unused, and we pay the return shipping.

Size about 6.7 by 7.1 inches (17 by 18 cm). Wood-grain finish on a plastic body with a fabric-look light panel and a wooden knob on top. Digital display with adjustable brightness. Power: USB cable, stays plugged in, no internal battery (after a power cut, check the time and your alarms). Light: 15-minute sunrise, eight night-light colours, dimmable. Sound: ten natural sounds, adjustable volume, ten-minute snooze. Facts come from the maker's listing; we check each one on our own sample before the first shipment.

What it won't do: It won't get you out of bed or choose your bedtime; that part stays yours. It is not a music speaker, and it needs to stay plugged in.

How to use
Level 1, training (days 1 to 7): plug it in, set the time and your alarm with the buttons, and let the light rise 15 minutes before the alarm. Get up when the room is bright, at the same time each day.
Level 2, the first hour (weeks 2 to 4): wake with the light, set one intention for the day, move (feet on the floor, a glass of water, a stretch), and sit in stillness for a few minutes by the light before you touch the phone.
Level 3, kept and shared (month 2 on): keep the same wake time without pushing. Use the second alarm for the person beside you, each with its own time and sound.
Evening: switch to the dimmable warm light with the 30, 60 or 90 minute timer and let it fade out on its own. The phone goes in the drawer.

Complete the set.

Good to know.

Do I need an app or Wi-Fi?

No. Everything is set with the buttons on the clock.

Can I use it for a morning sit or meditation?

Yes. Wake with the light, then sit for a few minutes before the phone. The clock marks the hour and asks nothing else of you.

What are the three levels?

Level 1 is training: wake with light, not sound, for a week. Level 2 is the first hour: wake, intend, move, begin. Level 3 is the practice kept and shared with the second alarm.

How long until waking with light feels normal?

Give it the same wake time for a week or two. We make no promise about how fast; that part is yours.

Does it run on batteries?

No. It stays plugged in with a USB power cable and has no internal battery, so after a power cut check the time and your alarms.

Is it real wood?

The finish is wood-grain on a plastic body.
